Project Based Learning (PBL)

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is at the core of the Clariden educational experience. From preschool through Upper School, students engage in four or more dynamic, interdisciplinary projects each year that shape their academic journey.

Each project is thoughtfully designed to meet—and often exceed—Texas Curriculum Standards while also reflecting students’ interests and curiosity. Grounded in meaningful, real-world questions, PBL encourages students to explore complex topics with purpose and relevance.

The process mirrors how challenges are approached beyond the classroom. Students collaborate in teams, conduct research, test ideas, and draw evidence-based conclusions. Along the way, they develop essential skills in writing, public speaking, and presentation.

Every project is structured with clear goals, guided methods, targeted lessons, defined timelines, and comprehensive assessments—ensuring a rigorous and engaging learning experience from start to finish.

The Benefits of Project-Based Learning (PBL):

  • Deeper Learning - PBL Promotes a deeper understanding and retention of knowledge
  • Personal Growth and Motivation - Choice-driven learning builds autonomy, mastery and purpose
  • Real-World Readiness - Hands-on problem, solving builds practical skills
  • Collaborative and Social Skills - Teamwork strengthens communication and leadership skills
  • Lifelong Learning - Real-world applications spark curiosity and genuine engagement

“Students can be their best selves each day in and out of the classroom and take (educational) risks responsibly through the encouragement and safety of hands–on learning, public speaking, collaboration, cooperation, and the learning for learning’s sake that PBL at Clariden provides.” (Dr. Jamie Segraves, Head of School)
