Dr. Segraves to Begin with the 2021-2022 School Year
The Clariden School, a North Texas leader in accredited, private Pre–K through Grade 12 STEAM education, today announced the selection of Dr. Jamie Segraves to be Head of School beginning with the 2021-22 school year. Dr. Segraves will officially assume the position on July 1, 2021, and will be working closely with Mrs. Angela Naples, Clariden’s Interim Head of School, during the upcoming months to ensure a smooth transition.
Dr. Segraves will be relocating from Alexandria, Virginia, where she currently serves as Associate Head of Upper School at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School. She brings with her an impressive background in education. She holds a B.A. in Spanish from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury College, an M.S. in Linguistics from Georgetown University, and an Ed.D. in K-12 Educational Leadership from Seton Hall University.
A native Texan, Dr. Segraves was born in Houston and grew up in Kingwood. She began her full-time independent-school career in Maryland at St. Paul’s School for Boys in 2009 after teaching at the university level at Georgetown University and George Washington University. Prior to working at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School, Dr. Segraves also gained experience at The Wardlaw + Hartridge School (Edison, New Jersey), Montclair Kimberley Academy (Montclair, New Jersey), and St. Paul’s School for Boys (Brooklandville, Maryland). At these schools, she has served in a variety of leadership positions including: Upper School Service-Learning Coordinator, World Language and English Language Learner Department Chair, Director of Global Experience, Interim Global Studies Director, and Associate Director of Upper School.
In each of these school communities, Dr. Segraves has had a significant impact on these institutions because of her commitment to improving the lives of students and faculty, diversity and inclusion, fundraising, program development, faculty evaluation, and professional growth. It is apparent that at each of these institutions, she helped advance culture and curriculum, and that she remains on the forefront of innovation in the field of education.
The Clariden School Board of Directors and the Head of School Search Committee conducted a robust recruiting search with candidates from across the country over a period of several months. Interviews were conducted by the Board of Directors, the Search Committee, and included the whole Clariden community. There were focus groups and virtual town halls for the Clariden community to ask questions of each candidate and submit their feedback to the committee.
“As Clariden welcomes Dr. Jamie Segraves to our school and plans for her to visit next semester, we are grateful for the outstanding leadership Angela Naples continues to provide as Interim Head of School during the 2020-21 school year,” stated The Clariden Board of Directors. “We are appreciative of Angela’s commitment to Clariden and her willingness to work closely with the Board and Dr. Segraves to guarantee a successful transition.”
